Product:

EzParts Electronic Parts Catalog Software.

Solution:

To install EzParts on the Network and use it in multi-user mode, follow the steps below:

Note:

EzParts is used by multiple manufacturers.  The inclusion of {Manufacturer Name} is used in place of specific manufacturer names. You should substitute the manufacturer name for this place holder in  the instructions below.

1) Choose a computer that will act as a server. So other computers will be able to connect to MSSQL and Shared Folder that will be on the server.

2) On your server perform Simple Installation/Advance Installation of EzParts. Install the entire DVDs with resources.

- Simple Installation - select this option if:
a) you are installing
EzParts Electronic Parts Catalog Software for the first time.
b) you would like both
EzParts Electronic Parts Catalog Software application and manufacturer database to be installed on a current machine.
This option installs the
EzParts Electronic Parts Catalog Software application and manufacturer database ( to EZPARTS5_2008R2 instance of SQL Server) for use on the local machine. If manufacturer database is already installed on this machine, installation wizard will suggest replacing or leaving database unchanged.
- Advanced Installation - select this option if:
a) you would like to choose the
EzParts Electronic Parts Catalog Software components to be installed (either both application and database, application only or database only).
b) you already have MSSQL Server 2008R2 or newer installed on the current machine and would like to install the
EzParts Electronic Parts Catalog Software manufacturer database to the desired instance of SQL Server (not the default EZPARTS5_2008R2 instance).

3) Launch EzParts and make sure that the application is installed and resources are displayed correctly in the program.

4) If you are going to connections from other computer systems, enable TCP/IP for MSSQL Server instance that was installed on the computer you determined would be your data server and where you installed EzParts.  The link here: (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb909712(v=vs.90).aspx) provides instructions from Microsoft on the steps for enabling TCP/IP.

5) We also suggest that you use a NON-STANDARD PORT for MSSQL to prevent/avoid conflicts. The link here: (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms177440.aspx) provides steps from Microsoft. The default port used by MSSQL is 1433. Your EzParts Manufacturer may suggest the use of a different port.  Please consult your manufacturer's documentation.  If you have no documentation from your manufacturer you can use port 1654.

6) Share your resources folder (resources are located at "C:\EzParts5.0_DATA\" by default) so that this folder becomes available via network using path like \\ServerName\EzParts5.0_DATA\ and Make sure that Windows firewall is not blocking MSSQL Server incoming connections (on the server machine, so other machines can connect).

7) Choose Between Option A or B:

A) Copy C:\Program files\EzParts5 (where the application was installed) folder to C:\EzParts5.0_DATA\{Manufacturer Name} folder.  (This option will require that you update "startinfo.xml" file every time the EzParts database is updated with a new install or using EzUpdater application to update your data set from the internet)

OR

B) Share the "C:\Program Files\EzParts5" Application folder so that this folder becomes available via network using path like \\ServerName\EzParts5\  (This option will require that you update "startinfo.xml" ONLY in the case where you install a new Manufacturer data set from DVD/USB or Memory Stick.  you will NOT need to update the startinfo.xml file each time you update using the EzUpdater application to update your data set from the internet)

8) Manually Edit the Startinfo.xml file to reflect your configuration settings manually as specified below  or by using the Startinfo Manager Editing tool:

1) Open \\ServerName\Resources\EzParts5 folder and edit the startinfo.xml file using Notepad (Right-click the file and select Open with… -> Notepad from the context menu). Make the following changes to:

<ManufacturerInfos>
<Items>
<ManufacturerInfo Default="True" Enabled="True">
<Name>Manufacturer (Server version)</Name><FullConnectionString>Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Data Source=ServerName;Initial Catalog=DatabaseName;Password=EzParts50SecretPassword;User ID=EzParts50Login;Persist Security Info=True;</FullConnectionString><ResourcesPath>\\ServerName\{Manufacturer Name}\Resources</ResourcesPath>
<GUID>uniqueid-9df9-4acf-b1dd-6393330b8fc3</GUID>
<UseExternalNotes>false</UseExternalNotes>
<CustomDataPath />
</ManufacturerInfo>
</Items>
</ManufacturerInfos>

Change EzParts50SecretPassword and EzParts50Login to corresponding password and login for SQL Server

2) Save changes and close Notepad.

3) Test by running \\ServerName\{Manufacturer Name}\EzParts5\EzParts.exe executable file.

9) Verify that the application is accessible and executes properly from each workstation and make a shortcut to the application:

If you selected Option A above:

On each workstation:

Execute \\ServerName\{Manufacturer Name}\EzParts5\EzParts.exe and verify that EzParts launches and connects to the data set.

Create a shortcut to EzParts using these simple steps:

- Right-click an open area on the desktop, point to New and click Shortcut.

- Enter \\ServerName\{Manufacturer Name}\EzParts5\EzParts.exe

- Click Next.

- Click Finish.

If you selected Option B above:

On each workstation:

Execute \\ServerName\EzParts5\EzParts.exe and verify that EzParts launches and connects to the data set.

Create a shortcut to EzParts using these simple steps:

- Right-click an open area on the desktop, point to New and click Shortcut.

- Enter \\ServerName\EzParts5\EzParts.exe

- Click Next.

- Click Finish.

Additional Notes:

  - Each workstation should have Microsoft.Net Framework 2.0 with the latest service pack installed.

  - If schematics aren’t displayed - install Visual C libraries (vcredist_x86.exe from soft folder on EzParts DVD).

  - If PDF-documents aren’t displayed – install Adobe Acrobat Reader (AdbeRdr812_en_US.exe or newer from soft folder on EzParts DVD, optionally you can install the latest version from the Adobe web site).
